ANDOID SUCKS fucking crap fragmented bullshit os linux crap remember you cant polish a turd
Rediculous, I’ll never buy an HTC again!
By end of April, the HTC Hero will be released for 9 months! We all know the update is ready, they just keep postponing it. First for the Nexus One, now for Legend.
REDICULOUS!!!
Anyway, if I root my Hero, can I install the official update later on, when it’s FINALLY released?
Thanks
Where did you find this information?
The Swedish HTC department announced it somehow and a Dutch website then asked for confirmation through their own local HTC office. Unfortunately, the HTC customer service did confirm the Swedish rumor
Hey Kanter,
In theory this should be possible and I have seen people do it or claim to have done it. WhenI tried it, I was running into some problems due to the drivers on my Windows machine. I have also seen HTC sync refuse to upgrade a device since it was already ‘up to date’. In general, there’s always a way to fix these things, but it might keep you busy for a day. I guess that’s still a lot less than 9 months…
If you decide to root and install a custom ROM and you update your phone later with HTC ‘s official release, I’d love to hear from you! We can help other users out :)
I think I saw that swedish post, but my understanding of the swedish language is limited. Let’s (not) hope HTC confirm that rumour.
Oh but they already did … :s
@Sigrid: Which one did you try to install?
Anyone else had issues?
The problems occurred when I wanted to reinstall the official firmware. I had no problems with installing custom ROMs
Hm, that can be an issue when the official 2.1 update will be released (finally)…
I guess it might…But I was under the impression that it was mostly a driver problem on my computer. And the error of having an up to date device could be fixed by install the out of the box firmware again before you try to install the official update

just so you know if you “root” your phone, you can “un-root” it as well.
i’ve rooted and loaded multiple custom roms. my favorite so far is DamageControl2.1. It’s mostly stable and works VERY well and is VERY smooth. I’ve also un-rooted and then re-rooted just to make sure it’s possible. the only thing you can’t “undo” is i you flash one of Fresh’s radio updates.
the tools are out there if you just do a little searching and poking around.
to be completely honest, i can care less about the “official” update from sprint. it’s going to be overloaded with their crappy software that’s mostly useless. once the official update comes out, i’ll wait 2 more days for one of the dev’s roms to get released and will be much happier with what i have. until then, DamageControl2.1 is the best one out there. IMHO anyway.
@101NEO: And how can I install it?
You can run the hero ruu and get back to stock radio. I have tried and done it.
you are all silly. the hero is the same phone it was WHEN YOU BOUGHT IT. Its just as good. just as bad. just the same. be glad they are updating it at all, and just wait. It isn’t like you are paying for the update, is it?
I guess that’s a way to look at it too… But HTC did promise us updates and people might have counted on those before purchasing the device…
Its RIDICULOUS. As in, that is how it is spelled.
