I just googled "blackberry bold 9700 fragile" and your post came up. Unfortunately your prediction has come true for me.

I've had my BB Bold 9700 only 10 days and the screen is broken. I was teaching a class and had the phone in my jacket pocket (with nothing else in the pocket, by the way). When I pulled it out after class there was a dime-sized black compression on the bottom right of the screen and then within 5 minutes the whole screen became white with streaks and has stayed that way since(completely unusable). Oh yeah, I teach computer design, not karate.

The consensus from T-mobile employees is to always keep it in its bulky custom case. Okay, but my iSheep friends can put THEIR phones in their pockets (I'm starting to think they're right after all). I just cant see much use for such a good looking device like the Bold 9700 hiding in its case all the time. And having it clipped to my belt 9 hours a day makes me REALLY jealous of the iPhoners. I have insurance so I got a replacement from Asurion ($130) but returned it before opening the package. I can't have a phone that's going to break while I teach a PhotoShop class.

I'm sure people love them (I know a woman who keeps her's in her purse, so no fear of breakage), but for me the Bold 9700 just doesn't work. I'm going to hold out for a new iPhone, eventually (once they get the antenna thing fixed). Oh yeah, keys on the 9700 are small for me (I'm tall), and the browser seems real slow. Calendar was VERY nice.
