I share your contempt for locked products. However, if you have an AT&T Backflip, you must have decided to use AT&T as a carrier and then decided to purchase the Backflip. (by you I mean the consumer, not you literally) Consumers need to take at least as much responsibility as companies. To regurgitate a cliche spiderman quote, with great power comes great responsibility. There are products and options out there that are not AT&T crap. Unfortunately, I am a consumer who did not take the time to research the backflip and jump in feet first, renewing my contract, clapping my hands, yelling, "android phone, android phone, android phone", like a (insert word that describes stupidity that somehow people find offensive). Its my fault, it's not like there was a coverup on the information. (if their was... like some companies do... then I'd say you'd have a legitimate complaint)

I think the WWII comparison is a bit far fetched, and a bit hurtful towards it victims since this is just a phone after all, but I get your sentiment towards Motorola. They re clearly not concerned about selling locked products to consumers. I wish Google wouldn't allow these limitations of the system.

If Moto is keeping to the "promise" made by Lori Fraleigh that Droid would be the only unsigned Motorola Android device, I'd imagine rooting and/or custom roms will be just as out of reach as it is for us with the Milestone.

I'm also not in the least reluctant to heap blame on Motorola with AT&T on this. Motorola is at least a willing collaborator in this burgeoning fiasco. They punished collaborators in WWII didn't they? And no, I'm not trying to compare either of these two companies to Hitler, that would be going over board.

But I bet we'll be seeing another Darkfall parody in 10, 9, 8,...
