***UPDATE 2*** Thank you all! We won the contest! That means Ellie is getting 260 dollars for her ‘medical bills fund’. She’ll still need a bit more but thanks to many donations and my own credit card (;) she will get every single thing she needs!
She’s doing ok for now (not great unfortunately) . We were afraid her broken paw got infected, which would result in an immediate amputation of the paw, but it seems to be doing ok. The vet emailed me it’s actually feeling warmer and there is blood circulation. The only thing that still worries me is that she’s not capable of using her other paw well either. She keeps falling over! But she does have a huge cast on one of her paws, that would throw me off balance too, and she did manage to make it to the litter box all by herself. So there is hope! Thank you so much for your votes! ***
***UPDATE***Just got to visit Ellie and she is doing somewhat better, but not good enough just yet. We are a bit worried about her back paws, which both seem at stake now. She needs at least one to have a decent life. We’ll know more in the coming days. But! Ellie seems up for a fight, she’s a tough lady and already enjoys all the attention. I still desperately need your votes, though. So, pleeeaaase, help me if you can (it’s just to clicks! see below)
Hey, thank you for checking this page on how you can help me save a poor kitty. A couple of days ago, I went to the vet with my little hamster. While discussing its infected eye a loud unhappy sound filled the room: a cat. The vet told me she arrived that day, brought in by a kind woman who found it but couldn’t take care of the costs to help the hurt animal.
After inspection the vet realized the cat was in really bad condition. Not in dying shape, just yet, but it was really bad. Her paw was broken (very badly) and she was severely injured all over her body. The vet helped her with the wounds but wasn’t sure what to do about the broken leg and the next steps. It was going to very expensive to help this cat.
With no owner showing up and no missing cats resembling the injured one, our vet didn’t know what to do. I wasn’t really thinking much while listening to the story. I just thought: ‘this cat needs help!’ and blurted out I would pay for everything. The next day the cat went to a special clinic to get some pictures taken and see if there was anything left to do for this poor animal.
The pictures weren’t good. But the vet thought she could still help the cat and so she did. And I did. I was allowed to visit her right after she got the cast on her leg to meet for the very first time. As the little creature dragged her tired body up to me just to get a pet, I decided: if you get through this I am going to give you the best second life ever. I named her Ellie.
So, here we are and I need your help. Don’t worry, I’m not asking for money. By coincidence I was already in a contest with a money prize (260 dollar). All I’m asking is for you to help me win the contest. It’s not even that much work, I hope. All you have to do before Wednesday morning is:
How you can help!
1. Become a fan of http://www.facebook.com/koopjesfanaat on Facebook, a project of the Belgian division of eBay. Just click ‘become a fan’ and then the backspace to return here.
2. Then go to my album HERE and click on the like button at the right top of the page (don’t click on the individual pictures). That’s it! You voted!
OK, so now you’ll probably get some weird Dutch status in your timeline for a couple of days. Please tolerate our funny language until Wednesday morning. Your vote will not count if you are no longer a fan of the page, I’m afraid. It’s all for a good cause and you do know the company organizing it: eBay.
If you’re thinking I’m not really donating this money to the cat, which I’m sure some of you are, I can only promise I will. I’ve set up a separate PayPal account for Ellie which will cover her medical bills. Any money left in the account will go to a local cat rescue organization in Ghent, Belgium. Really, every cent and more of this money is going to a cat that needs help.
Several local people have already donated to the cause and are keeping a close eye on me
I’m even organizing a little thank you party to show you the rescued cat, but if you’re reading this page, you’re probably somewhere in the US so I doubt you can make it. And thus I can only thank thank thank thank you for your time and effort in helping me. Thank you!

Browsing stumbleupon.com I noticed your site bookmarked as: Operation Ellie (EN) | Sigrid Schrijft. Now i’m assuming you book marked it yourself and wanted to ask if social bookmarking gets you a good deal of visitors? I’ve been thinking of doing some social bookmarking for a few of my websites but wasn’t certain if it would yield any positive results. Thank you very much.
